The cookbook
Join urban fantasy author Emma Shelford in producing a cookbook promo that features recipes from indie fantasy books. Does your character eat or drink something delicious or magical? Are they a cook, baker, or bartender? Do they just love food so much?
I'm currently accepting applications for a cookbook promo featuring recipes of food mentioned in the novels of participating urban fantasy authors. I envision after every recipe would be a short excerpt from the novel featuring the food in question. Check out my mock-ups below.
Think of it as an out-of-the-box group promo. I will put up the finished product as a free download for your readers (either on Bookfunnel or online retailers, at my discretion). At the end of the day, your book will gain exposure for very little work and no cost (your novel will be in the cookbook that others will promote to their fans). This will provide us a nice bonus to give our readers, as well as cross-pollination between the participating authors. You don't have to do anything beyond fill out the form below, and I'll do the rest. Of course, you will need to share with your followers, tweet it, facebook it, whatever you can do to promote it… we're in this together!

If I can get a roster of 10-20 authors that fit the guidelines, I'll produce the book. If you would like to apply, please fill out the form at the bottom of the page.
How much is this going to cost me?
Nothing! I will swallow the costs of producing the book (cover and layout). I will test all the recipes myself. If you aren't satisfied with the product before publication, you're welcome to bow out at any time.
Who is Emma Shelford, anyway?
Hi! I'm an urban fantasy author of 15 (so far) full-length novels with excellent reviews (https://www.amazon.com/Emma-Shelford/e/B00OKU74M8). You can rely on me to produce a product to be proud of.
What about copyright of recipes?
Recipes, in their bare-bones format, are not actually copyrightable (What Does Copyright Protect? (FAQ) | U.S. Copyright Office). You can give me any recipe you like, and I will test it, tweak it, and write my own description around the ingredient list.
Here are mock-ups of two cover ideas and the cookbook's interior pages. Please note, I am NOT a graphic designer NOR a visual artist! These mock-ups are simply meant to showcase my vision. I'll outsource cover design and layout.
